Join Board Member Theo Martinez on an easy bike ride and get to know the parks, trails, community center and library in our neighborhood.
This slow and easy ride begins at 11am at St. Elizabeth Park (St Elizabeth and Curci) and will head to the Los Gatos Creek Trail. From there you will head up to Bascom for a stop at the Bascom Library and Community Center. Want some refreshments? SONA will buy you a cool drink at the onsite café.
Then you’ll head over to Fruitdale for a quick stop at our office and head out for the rest of your day. This ride should take less than an hour and kids are welcome. There are bike lanes and sidewalks along the entire route if you are cautious about having kids on the streets.

Notes From The President
Thanks to all the parents and neighbors who turned up for the Campbell Union High School District study session on moving district services around. The district has re-zoned the property that currently holds the district offices, services and maintenance. The long-term plan is to generate a steady independent income by leasing the property to developers for mixed use commercial and housing. That’s good news because school districts need to stabilize income. The key to this will be moving the existing components elsewhere. On the agenda was a proposal to move the entire bus fleet and maintenance yard to a section of Del Mar High School adjacent to Stokes. Pro-actively showing up, expressing concern and outlining problems is the most effective way of making sure your voices are heard when your tax dollars are being spent.
Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) is being offered to D6 residents. The trainings will be held at Sherman Oaks. The training is one Friday evening (4/26) and the following two Saturdays. For more information, contact the district office at 535-4906.
The U.S. Census will happen in 2020. You can help make sure our community gets our fair share of tax dollars, and you can earn money doing so! A complete and accurate census ensures housing, medical, parks, transportation and other funds are spent equitably. We send our taxes to Washington and often receive funds based on how many people live here, not how much we’ve sent. Census jobs range from outreach to office work, have flexible hours and start at $24 per hour! This includes training. Santa Clara County is looking for 1000 census workers. Save The Date
Saturday, April 13 Great American Litter Pick-up. As a lead in to Earth Day, you can join with residents from around the city for a one day litter pick up. Councilmember Dev Davis kicks off the cleanup at the Bascom Library Community Center at 8:30am. After the clean up, join people from around the district for a celebration from 12-1pm. Friday, April 26 14th Annual West Valley Senior Walk. Join Councilmembers Dev Davis and Chappie Jones at Westfield Valley Fair. Registration begins at 7:30am and activities start at 8am. Besides the warm up and walk, there will be resource booths for seniors. For more information, contact the district office at 408-535-4901 or email Rachel.Davis@sanjoseca.gov. For those of you who don’t know, the mall is a great place to get your steps in before stores open.

Sunday, May 19 Viva Calle! This great event returns from 11am-3pm across large parts of the city. Ever wonder what it would be like to close down roads and have a miles long festival for pedestrians and bicyclists? This year’s route runs from Willow Street to Downtown and the East Side. You can pick up 1st Street and head through downtown to St. James Park. Or, head down to Emma Prusch Park via Story Road. Thursday, June 13 Annual Ice Cream Social. FREE ICE CREAM! Grab your neighbors and meet us at the Sherman Oaks KaBOOM! Playground on the corner of Leigh and Fruitdale. This event will run from 5:30-7:30pm. Contact Theo Martinez (see page 1) for information or if you want to volunteer.
Ongoing Bascom Library and Community Center has something for everyone. There are summer camps for kids, teen programs and events, classes, computers and bus trips for seniors.
Guadalupe Parks and River Gardens is a year-round gem. You can adopt a rose in the Heritage Rose Garden for your mom for Mother’s Day and not only have her name placed at a special rose, you’ll have chocolate, scented soap and more in your basket. Get great ideas from the water wise grounds, hike, walk or bike the trails, learn about the river and wildlife or simply go play at the best all access playground in town.
